Kershaw vs deGrom: What to expect from the battle of Cy Young winners

We get to see a lot of good pitching match-ups throughout the year. On this case, a Kershaw vs deGrom match-up, not that many.

Since we get to see only two Cy Young Award winners get picked every year, there aren’t too many pitchers to start a conversation with that distintion.

But tonight, is one of those rare days.

deGrom and the Mets

Last year’s National League pick for the CY award, Jacob deGrom, will take the hill for a New York Mets team that stands right at the middle of the line at .500 with 26-26.

Don’t let that record fool you.

The Mets are leaving Citi Field winning six of their last 7 games, including 2 wins in walk-off fashion.

They were 20-25 after last Sunday’s loss, part of a three-episode series sweep brought by the worst team in Baseball, record wise, the Miami Marlins.

You can also add the fact that deGrom stats does not tell the whole story of what the Dodgers will see tonight.

In 5 games started in May, he has given up 10 earned runs and 23 hits, with 32 strikeouts in 32 innings.

Of those 32, he had a 5 inning game 2 starts ago vs the Marlins, in which he gave up 7 runs, 6 earned, along with 9 hits and 3 Ks.

Put that game apart, now. In 27 innings on those other 4 starts, the numbers reduce to 14 hits, 4 earned runs, and 29 Ks.

What I mean is that last year, deGrom had the longest quality start streak in the history of the game with 26, tied with one of the best of all time at the mound, the great Bob Gibson.

Look, one bad start happens just here and there to the elite. I don’t expect to see a similar bad start for deGrom in a long time.

Kershaw and the Dodgers

Clayton Kershaw will start for LA.

Read very carefully. The following is not a typo.

Number 22 hasn’t lost a decision since July 21st of last year’s season at Milwaukee. Kershaw allowed four runs (one earned) in 6 innings.

Kershaw has a 4-0 record, with a 3.33 ERA, 0.978 WHIP and 44 Ks in 46 innings pitched.

And talking about hot…

Los Angeles have managed to win in a consistently basis during the year, besides their 6-game on the third week of the season near mid-April.

They will return back home after an 8-game road trip, which had them playing great baseball.

They won 6 games, including a 3-game series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates this past weekend. With a record of 35 wins in 53 games, they always find a way to win.

Kershaw vs deGrom outcome

The key for this could be the home-visitor factor.

As we know, at home will always be more comfortable than away.

The New York Mets have not fared that good on the road. Their 11-17 record is third-to-last for National League teams.

deGrom in his 3 career starts at Dodger Stadium has a 0-1 record, with a 3.79 ERA, giving up 8 earned runs and 15 hits in 19 frames.

For the Dodgers, their 19-6 record is the best in Major League Baseball.

Kershaw possess an 86-34 record with a 2.11 ERA for his career at Dodger Stadium.

The best guess is taking the most consistent team of the last half-decade in the Dodgers over a Mets team that is still trying to fight for their identity, which could be very well defined by their recent success.

So be prepared, because tonight’s clash between Kershaw vs deGrom could be one for the ages.
